There is nothing more classical yet rugged about shirts than men’s plaid shirt. These can come in a lot of different designs that you can readily choose from.
These plaid shirts are patterned with checkered designs. These patterns can also be called tartan.
These can actually be worn by men or women. However, this is most commonly seen in men.
There are a lot of choices of materials that you can choose from since these can also be made from a lot of different fabrics. First, and the most common fabric that is used is cotton.

These shirts also come in different styles and cuts. Typically these are long sleeved shirts. But there are also those which only go up to the elbows. This can be very unconventional for a plaid shirt, but that is fashion for some. There are even others which are only as long as a usual shirt sleeve. This is more ideal to use on a hot and humid weather, cotton is also an ideal material for this.
Also, there are others which come with pockets on the shirt itself. Some may have only one, while there can be others which have two.
You may also choose the pattern on the shirt. You can choose the ones with the bigger prints. Also, there are some with small prints which can be more ideal for more formal gatherings as the larger printed shirt may look more rugged.
There is also men’s plaid shirt that has a very fine pattern in it. This can even pass as a dress shirt. This looks more formal and this is ideal for men who are less adventurous with fashion.
The prices of these shirt can vary from as low as $25 to as much as $150. But the price doesn’t stop there. There are brands which can be lower, and there are even more brands which sell these shirts at very high prices.
So men’s plaid shirt are very ideal for those men who want to look casual yet a look that is close enough to respectable and formal can be easily shown.

Plaid Shirts

What we know, love, and wear as plaid these days had its origins in the Scottish ‘tartan’, used by clans in the islands and highlands as their identification. This was a garment woven with criss-crossing bands of different colors. Since then, the tartan has survived repression and reemerged as our beloved plaid, which is used in some of the most often worn shirts in our culture today.
Plaid shirts are one of the few things items of clothing worn by both men and women, and as such is one of our great unisex choices. It is a pattern, and a bold one at that, yet it’s okay for men to wear. Where flowers and other patterns worn by men are usually viewed as somewhat womanish or loud at best, plaid is worn by the manliest of men- just look at cowboys, or at least the image of cowboys that has been created in America.
Why, there is even a special style of plaid shirt known as “western plaid shirts” on the market, which have somewhat of a Southwest feel to them. The design is the same, although sometimes shoulder patches are added with bands running diagonally to the ones on the shirt. A western plaid shirt is a must for attending a country dance or festival, or just when you feel like adding a little more fun to your plaid.
Another staple of the Western (and increasingly global) wardrobe is the flannel plaid shirt. Long associated with lumberjacks and other hardy, outdoorsey types, flannel plaid shirts are thicker and offer protection from the cold, as well as from getting scratched by branches you might brush while hiking. They evoke the cozy feeling of being inside a log cabin in wintertime, sipping at a mug of hot cocoa.
Or of grunge rockers like Kurt Cobain, depending on the generation you were a part of- for a while there, back in the early/mid nineties, flannel seemed to be all that teenagers were wearing.
Plaid is great for those occasions where you want to look nice, but don’t necessarily want to get dressed up. When meeting your boy or girlfriend’s parents for the first time, for instance. Or perhaps the first day of school. You know, those occasions where you want to look presentable, but also casual. For this, you will probably want a plaid shirt made with a thinner fabric, with a less bold pattern. Patterns with smaller squares lend themselves to this purpose.
